I had an interview today at a local TV station. I felt pretty good about the interview but then again I’ve felt pretty good about all the interviews I’ve had since I got out of school a year and a half ago.
On a semi related note, It was kind of neat to see the background working of the TV station. I mean it wasn’t eactly anything unexpected but it was still cool. He had the Control Room operator demonstrate the little push up advertisement system. The guy clicks a button on one monitor, then the feed monitor (showing what’s going out live now) shows up with a little Malcolm in the Middle plug at the bottom of the screen.
Thousands (probably hundreds, if that, given the time) of WB viewers this morning were treated to an advertisement at my expense. Anyway the basic job is to maintain thier equipment and computer servers. Something I could manage pretty easily. It also pays around $15 an hour at at least 40 hours a week. That comes out to around $600 a week, $2400 a month or around 31k a year. Plus he said there is generally some overtime if you want it.
I could live extremely comfortably on that.
My GF liked the idea of that too.

I make a little more than that an hour and need lots more.
My wife makes over $22 an hour at the same time.

Possibly cost of living is more where you are?
I generically figured I could live of something like $1000 a month with say, $400 in rent for a 2 bedroom apartment.
$400 rent
$200 bills (phone internet, anything not included w/rent)
$150 car+insurance
$200 groceries
$50 gas
I suppose I might be forgetting something. I probably had a more detailed list somewhere.

My cost of living is crazy. It’s very high near Boston, but high in Massachusetts in general.
Mortgage: $1000 – after two refinances
Electricty: $80
Oil heat: We do a monthly plan where we never stop paying and actually have a huge credit built up for the winter.
Water: I pay that four times a year.
Cell phone: $120 a month – family plan with lots of minutes because I can’t shut up
My gasoline bill varies so much, I couldn’t tell you how much I spend, just the milage the vehicles get
I haven’t a clue as to what the other bills are, my wife is the one who pays them online, and it confused me when I just looked at it
